Baby Boomers: Dental Problems
If you were born between 1946 and 1964, you’re a Baby Boomer. As a Boomer, you had all kinds of different dental experiences, some good, some not so good. Today, the old-fashioned dentistry of yesteryear is gone. Good Riddance.
The thing that you should realize is those fillings that you had placed when you were a kid are getting pretty old. Those old fillings could have started breaking down and leaking after all these years. One dental school study showed that 68% of those old fillings had decay under them. So what you have thought was okay, very well may not be.
Most of those old fillings are also what is known as "amalgam" which is a metal alloy of silver and mercury. These fillings don't stick or "glue" themselves to the tooth edges and we find a very large number of these teeth break around the old silver fillings due to wear and tear and bite stresses.
Your teeth can start looking “aged and tired” way before their time, simply because of aging fillings and bite stresses. The stresses and stains of daily living can add up.
The good news is that you don’t have to put up with it anymore. The advances that we’ve made in cosmetic dentistry and technology for dentistry have made a huge change in the way dentistry is practiced (which we are all thankful for).
Obviously, as parents or grandparents “on the go,” you need the vibrancy, look and comfort of a smile that looks as good as you want to feel, wouldn’t you agree?
