Inman Aligners 

Fine Dentistry Dental Studio is the only dentist in Victoria, Australia currently offering the Inman Aligner.  Dr Stephen Allen has been using the Inman Aligner to straighten teeth since 2001 and has used it extensively  in his London, UK dental practice.

The Inman Aligner is a fantastic, simple and hassle-free way of straightening your front teeth. It is the orthodontic treatment of choice for adults who have previously had bands (braces) that have become crooked again.

In the past anyone with crooked teeth only had a few choices. Fixed braces and clear braces work well but are slow and can also be costly.

Because of this many people choose to have porcelain veneers instead. This often involves heavy grinding of the teeth to get them into the right position first. As a result many patients choose to do nothing and just live with it.

However the Inman Aligner now gives us all a very real alternative. Because it works so quickly and efficiently, if you don't like the idea of having brackets stuck to your teeth or waiting months and months for a clear brace to work, you can now have your front teeth straightened in as little as 6 -16 weeks. This also means that anyone considering veneers to align their teeth now has a far more conservative solution. You might not even need veneers at all.

Even if veneers are absolutely necessary because your teeth are so discoloured and mis-shapen, the Inman Aligner is the perfect way to align the teeth first quickly before the veneers are prepared. This way you can get a far more conservative solution.

The Inman Aligner is not just an orthodontic appliance. Many cosmetic dentists are calling it the "missing link between orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry."

It has also been described as the "Greatest Innovation in Cosmetic Dentistry since the porcelain veneer".

Not every case is possible and of course there are limitations, but if you are suitable you could get a fantastic smile in a matter of weeks and at far less cost.

The Inman Aligner is designed to correct adult relapse and misaligned teeth. It is barely visible, apart from a single clear wire, and it is a removable orthodontic appliance, allowing the wearer to go brace-free for important occasions. Similar to a retainer but has advantages over a retainer:

• Can correct moderate crowding and rotation of teeth
• More comfortable to wear as the spring is made of nickel titanium rather than stainless steel
• No retention problems

It also has advantages over Invisalign:

• Less hassle and expensive in a shorter period of time
• Achieves great results with just one appliance

However the Inman Aligner is only used for treating the top and bottom front teeth whereas Invisalign can treat all of your teeth, top and bottom.

How Does The Inman Aligner Work?

The Inman Aligner utilises a lingual coil spring that puts pressure at the back of the teeth that need repositioning and a bar that is placed across the front of the teeth reverses the same pressure. These components work together to "squeeze" teeth together by pushing and pulling them into alignment. 

How Long Does It Take?

The initial impressions and photographs takes 30 minutes and then 3 to 4 weeks later fitting the aligner takes 20 minutes. The Inman Aligner is then checked every 4 weeks, usually taking 10 minutes. Most patients treatment will last between 8 and 16 weeks.

Does It Hurt?

Patients may find they need to take mild painkillers for the first week or so. Like anything foreign to your mouth, it may cause you to salivate more than usual for 24 to 48 hours and could affect your speech for 7 to 10 days.

Will The Inman Aligner Affect My Speech?

Yes. The Inman Aligner will affect your speech for a week or two. You will however acclimate to the Inman Aligner over time and be able to speak fine with them in place.
